Flamingo Lakes lies on the Gulf Coast in SE Mexico close to the colonial city of Merida, capital of the State of Yucatan.

The Yucatan is a region offering a unique historical perspective with classic remains of the ancient Mayan civilization and, dating from the Sixteenth Century, Spanish and other European colonial influences.

Merida, a city of close to a million inhabitants, retains an abundance of beautiful colonial buildings and is a vibrant cultural center with music and dancing playing an important part in day-to-day life. At the same it is a modern city boasting a comprehensive range of shopping malls, auto dealerships, top quality hotels, restaurants and leisure facilities.

Flamingo Lakes is about half an hour away along excellent roads.

Flamingo Lakes is situated just a few miles inland from the coast close to the small town of Dzemul, a typical Mexican settlement with a few local shops, businesses, cantinas and a town square. To the north of the Resort, beyond the shallow salt lakes, home to thousands of flamingo in season, mile upon mile of virgin white sandy beaches stretch into the warm emerald waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

The Gulf Coast is ideal for a full range of water based leisure activities and the bone fishing is particularly noteworthy.
